What to know about women's clothing
Most disappointing purchases in this category fail on one of three things, and none of them is style. The first is cut: where a waistband sits, where a hem lands and where the fabric holds close or releases decide how a garment looks on a body, and those are knowable from the listing before you pay. The second is cloth. A fiber name on the tag predicts how the piece drapes, whether it breathes, how it wrinkles and what laundering will do to it. The same dress reads elegant in one fabric and cheap in another.
The third is honesty about wear. A garment you must handwash, press and protect earns its place only if you will actually do that, and the care lists in every guide below say plainly what each piece asks of you.
Each guide takes one garment apart: the named styles, the cut and length terms listings use, the fabrics it usually comes in, how it should fit, and what to check before buying. Start with the garment, or go straight to a single detail such as neckline or rise when that is the decision in front of you.
