What to know about intimates & sleepwear
Almost everything in this category lives or dies on fit. The single most useful fact is that bra sizing is not standard between makers. A band and cup that fit perfectly from one label can be a full size out from another. The number on your last bra is a starting point rather than an answer. The band does most of the work, carrying roughly four fifths of the support. It should sit level around your body and feel firm on the loosest hook when new. Straps only steady the load, and a strap digging into your shoulder is usually telling you the band underneath is too loose.
Fabric decides comfort in a different way here than elsewhere, because these pieces sit against skin all day or all night. Cotton and modal breathe and wash hot enough to actually get clean. Nylon and elastane give the stretch that shapewear and hosiery need, and both lose their recovery with heat. This is what turns a favorite piece slack.
Each guide below explains how to take the measurement that matters, how to check the fit on your own body, and what wears out first. Children's sleepwear carries safety rules of its own, and those are covered in the Kids and Baby guides.
