What to know about medium
Medium spans 12 to 14 inches across and holds about 7 to 10 liters. The new arrivals at this band are an 11 inch tablet, a paperback and a 500 ml bottle standing upright. That tablet measures close to 9.7 by 7 inches. A letter-size folder goes in laid flat if the bag stands at least 11.5 inches tall. Daily items still fit around all of that.
Base depth decides whether the extra width is real. Four inches of base depth lets a bottle stand and a folded jacket sit flat. Two inches turns the same 13 inch bag into an envelope where everything stacks against the front panel and tips out when you open it. View the bag from the end rather than the front before you believe the width.
The frustration at this band is laptops. A 14 inch laptop measures around 12.3 by 8.7 inches, so a 13 inch bag will not take it. Even a 14 inch bag takes it only bare, with no sleeve and no charger beside it. Loaded, a medium bag lands between 2 and 3 kg. At that weight a strap under an inch wide begins leaving a mark on a shoulder within the hour. Anyone carrying a machine daily should read this as the band below what they need.
