What to know about Drawstring Hobo
A drawstring hobo is a crescent bodied soft bag whose opening pulls closed on a cord running through eyelets or a fabric channel around the mouth. Pulling the cord gathers the top into folds, and releasing it lets the mouth open wider than the bag is nominally rated for.
That cord does two useful things and one annoying one. It stops contents falling out when you bend over, and it lets the opening stretch around something bulky. A jacket or a bag of fruit goes in where a zip top would refuse. What it will not do is seal, because a gathered mouth always leaves a gap where the folds meet. So an interior zip pocket becomes the place your wallet actually lives. Cord anchoring matters as much as the cord itself: eyelets punched through a single layer of leather tear out. Eyelets set through a reinforced band do not.

Waxed cotton and leather cords outlast synthetic braid, which frays where it passes the eyelets. Slacken the cord before putting the bag away so the top folds do not set into permanent pleats.
