Springs also return energy, so the surface pushes back as you turn instead of holding you in a warm crater. Better models reinforce the perimeter with stiffer edge coils, while cheaper ones substitute a foam rail that folds within a few years. Against a pillow top the comparison is about naming, since pillow top describes only the sewn-on surface, hybrid describes the whole construction, and many pillow tops are hybrids underneath.

Steel is heavy, and a queen hybrid commonly runs 90 to 120 pounds, so moving or rotating one is a two-person job, which matters every three months when rotation comes due. Boxed shipping handles hybrids fine, since pocketed coils tolerate compression, though the carton is the heaviest thing the mattress in a box format ships. Price bands tell the honest story: solid queens cluster from the upper hundreds into the low thousands, very cheap ones hide low coil counts and thin foam, and past roughly double the mid tier the felt gains shrink fast.

Warm sleepers, combination sleepers, heavier bodies and couples who want easy movement with decent isolation all land well here. Isolation still lags all-foam, though, because pocketed coils pass along less motion than an old innerspring and more than solid foam, so the lightest sleeper beside a restless partner should pick the memory foam sibling. People who love a deep slow hug will also find a hybrid too springy to sink into.
