What to know about dewy
Dewy finishes bounce light back rather than absorb it, using emollient oils, glycerin and light-diffusing pigments spread evenly enough that you see glow instead of glitter. The effect on lines is physical, not cosmetic. Reflected light softens the shadow at the edge of a wrinkle. A dewy base makes fine lines less visible while a matte one leaves them in full contrast.
Dry, dull and mature skin wears it best. Cooler months help, since low humidity leaves skin flat and a reflective film puts the light back. Placement matters more than quantity. Concentrating dew on the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and the brow bone follows where light naturally lands. A full face of it can read wet rather than fresh under a strong bulb.
After a few hours oil and dew look identical, and that is the limit. On oily and combination skin a dewy base becomes plain shine by mid-afternoon. Most combination wearers keep dew to the high points and set the center of the face with a light powder. Texture cuts the other way too: the same reflection that softens a fine line will highlight a raised bump or a flaking patch. Dewy formulas also transfer more onto phone screens, collars and masks than matte ones do.
