A Business Projector is built around one problem: people will not turn the lights off. Output runs 3,000 to 5,000 ANSI lumens, several times what a film projector needs. Native resolution is usually 1280 by 800 or 1920 by 1200, both 16:10 to match what laptops send. Native contrast sits near 1,000:1 to 2,000:1, which is entirely adequate for a bar chart and poor for a night scene. Lamps are common here because they are cheap and stocked for years.
The gap between this and a Home Theater Projector is the whole point of both. A theater model spends its budget on black level and a lens that shifts; this one spends it on lumens, lamp availability, network control and a case that survives a trolley. Short throw versions are common in classrooms, so read the throw ratio rather than the label. Where a room has whiteboards, windows and no blinds, the bright low contrast machine is the one that shows something readable.
Meeting rooms, lecture theaters, training rooms, churches and any shared space with a rota fit it well. It is also the sensible buy for a home user who mainly shows photos and video calls in a lit room and does not watch films. Do not put one in a cinema room, where its light output and elevated black level produce a gray, noisy picture, and where fan noise designed for a room full of chatter becomes obvious in a quiet scene.
Compare the color brightness figure, sometimes printed as color light output, against the white brightness figure. A single chip design with a white segment in its color wheel can post a big white number while color reads a third of it, which shows up as glaring whites and dull, gray looking charts. Look for horizontal and vertical keystone plus corner correction if the mount is fixed, a cable lock slot and a password lock for shared rooms, network monitoring if someone has to manage several units. Lamp cost and availability before you commit a fleet.
In a school or an office the filter is the maintenance item that gets skipped and then causes the failure, so put it on a calendar at 100 to 500 hours depending on how dusty the room is. Keep a spare lamp on the shelf, because a lamp that fails mid term takes a week to arrive. Train whoever switches it off to use the remote and let the fan run down rather than killing the wall switch.
