Depending on the model, it can average several room readings together, follow whichever room has people in it, or hold a bedroom to its own target overnight.
The sensor feature layers onto a Learning Thermostat or a Programmable Smart Thermostat rather than replacing either, since scheduling style and sensor support solve two different problems.
