The sliding clasp is the weak point everywhere, because it grips by friction and creeps looser over months. Better ones add a fold over lock on top.

Link bracelets hold their shape better and hold their fit permanently once sized. Leather beats mesh for warmth against skin and loses on lifespan. Rubber owns the water and reads casual. Mesh alone offers a dressy metal band you can size in a shop doorway, and that suits gifts and shared watches in a way nothing else here does.

Thin dress cases pair best, because a flat draping band under 2.5 mm keeps the whole watch beneath a cuff. Wrists that change size through the day are well served, as you reset the clasp by hand instead of living between two holes. Heavy watches are the wrong partner, since fine mesh under a 150 gram head distorts at the lugs. Hands on work rules it out as well, because grit works into the weave and cannot be brushed out.

Fold a length of mesh double and release it, since good mesh springs flat and cheap mesh keeps the kink where it bent. Draw the band along the back of your forearm to feel for sharp edges. Test the clasp by pulling firmly along the band, as any slide means it will creep. Rinse it after sweating and dry it fully, because the weave holds water against the steel and traps soap film that dulls the finish.
