A Streaming Stick packs the entire device into a sealed dongle a few inches long that plugs straight into an HDMI port and disappears behind the screen. Power arrives over a USB cable, no fan exists inside, and the remote talks over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi because the stick sits hidden from any line of sight.

A Streaming Box does the same work in the open with an ethernet jack, spare USB ports and room to shed heat. Pick it for a wall-mounted television with no shelf underneath, a tidy living room, or a screen where the port row is the only space you have. Renters and frequent movers like that the whole setup travels in a pocket. Skip it if your Wi-Fi barely reaches the television, since ethernet needs a powered adapter it does not include, and heavy gaming sits poorly with it, because sustained load meets passive cooling.

Heat is the honest weakness. A stick trapped in the warm pocket behind a wall-mounted screen throttles quietly and reboots on the worst evenings, and the fix is the short HDMI extender most makers include, which hangs it in open air. Feed it from the wall adapter too, since a TV USB port supplying half an amp starves it.

On a listing, confirm the remote controls TV power and volume, check which HDR formats are named, and look for Wi-Fi 6 if your router is modern. Restart it every few weeks, and expect the platform, not the hardware, to decide when its life ends. Storage is the specification most buyers skip: 8 gigabytes fills up once a dozen apps have updated themselves, while 16 stays responsive for years longer. A voice remote with a rechargeable cell also saves a steady trickle of AAA batteries. Keep the dongle clear of the strip along the top edge of the panel, which runs warmest.
