Microcurrent Device

A microcurrent device passes a very small electrical current between two metal probes resting on the face. Current is counted in microamps, millionths of an amp. Home units usually work somewhere between 25 and 400 of them, low enough that most people feel nothing beyond a faint metallic taste when a probe crosses the jaw.

Conductive gel is not an upsell, it completes the circuit. Dry skin resists current, so a probe on a dry cheek either does nothing at all or concentrates in one spot and stings. Water based gel spreads the contact evenly and keeps it gliding, and it must stay wet, which means reapplying partway through a long session. Price that in, since a tube emptied every few weeks turns a single purchase into a standing cost.

Duration is the catch with this product. Published work on microcurrent is small, short and often funded by the makers. What people actually see is a temporary tightening along the jaw and brow lasting hours to a day. Sessions run 5 to 20 minutes, five days a week for the first two months, dropping to two or three a week to hold whatever you gained. Break for a fortnight and your face returns to baseline, which makes this a standing commitment rather than a course you finish.

Clinic equipment differs in output and in hands. A trained operator works at higher current with a plan for each muscle group. In contrast, a home unit is limited deliberately so an untrained hand cannot overdo it. That safety margin is precisely why the home result is smaller. Compared with a Serum or a Face Mask, nothing here alters skin quality at all, since microcurrent acts below the surface rather than on it, so it stacks onto a routine instead of replacing part of one.

Several people should leave this on the shelf. An implanted electrical device such as a pacemaker, epilepsy, pregnancy, metal plates or pins in the face and active cancer treatment sit on the standard exclusion list. A unit printing no exclusions is one to walk past. Both probes need 70 percent isopropyl alcohol after every session, because dried gel and skin oil corrode the metal and a corroded probe delivers current unevenly across the face.
