Press-On Nails

You get a run of molded tips in graded sizes, already shaped and already colored, held on by either a double sided adhesive tab or liquid glue. That pre finished quality is the point: length, tip shape and art that would take a technician an hour arrive done. A useful kit ships 24 or more tips across ten to twelve sizes, because ten fingers rarely take fewer than six widths.

Fit decides everything that happens afterward. A tip should reach both side walls without pressing into them, and when your nail falls between sizes, take the smaller and file its sides outward, since an overhanging tip lifts at the edges and catches on clothing. Adhesive choice sets the wear. Tabs hold one to three days, peel off without solvent and let the same set go back on, though they soften in a hot shower. Liquid glue holds one to two weeks and has to be soaked off. Preparation is the step people skip before blaming the product: push the cuticle back, buff the shine off the plate, wipe with rubbing alcohol, then hold each tip down for a full thirty seconds, because adhesive bonds under pressure rather than on contact.

Gel Polish holds two to three weeks against the glued week or two here, but it cures onto your own nail as a thin film, adds no length, and demands a lamp going on and an acetone soak coming off. Press-ons add length in ten minutes and can come away in a bowl of warm soapy water. Nail Polish costs far less per wear yet needs drying time and chips at the tip within days. Files and Clippers still apply, since you shape a press-on before it goes on. Filing once it is stuck twists the tip and breaks the bond.

Weddings, interviews and photographs are the natural fit, along with anyone whose nails peel or refuse to grow past the fingertip. People who cannot sit still while polish dries get a finished hand. Avoid them if you type fast all day, since added length changes every keystroke, or if your job forbids artificial nails, as most clinical and food handling work does. Anyone with already thin nails should choose tabs over glue.

Match the curve of the tip to your nail, not just the width: a flat tip on a curved nail leaves a gap that traps water. Thin flexible tips follow a nail better than thick rigid ones. To remove, soak in warm soapy water with a little oil for ten to fifteen minutes, then slide a wooden stick under one edge and lift slowly. If a tip lifts during wear, take it off rather than pressing it back onto trapped moisture.
