Hot climates and travel days suit it well, since one less layer of folded cloth at the neck means less heat trapped against the skin. Long necks look balanced under the standing band, and the style pairs naturally with structured jackets cut without lapels. Short necks should be cautious, because a standing collar shortens an already short neck the same way a high henley placket does. Save it away from any dress code that specifically calls for a tie, since a mandarin collar physically cannot take one.

Order by the same neck measurement as any other dress shirt, but lean a quarter inch looser rather than tight, since nothing softens the band against your throat the way a tie knot or a folded point would. Check that the front button sits centered and closes without gapping, because a crooked closure is the first thing anyone notices on a collar this simple. Iron both faces of the band evenly, since every side of it stays visible, and hang the shirt on a wide hanger so the standing band keeps its shape between wears rather than crushing flat.
